Petroleum coke is a waste product made when oil is refined. Graphitization is the process of converting petroleum coke into graphite by subjecting it to high temperatures. This process involves charging the petroleum coke with electricity and then subjecting it to a scorching 3,000-degree temperature, which fixes the carbon molecules in a neat hexagonal arrangement. This makes it easier for petroleum coke to decompose in molten iron. All the big carbureisers on the market are graphite petroleum coke carbureisers.news-500-500Nowadays, most carbureisers are suitable for smelting in electric furnaces, and a few carbureisers with a particularly fast absorption rate are used in domes.

When you're using an electric furnace, you just lay the carbureizer down with the steel scrap and other furnace materials, and add a small dose to the surface of the molten iron. But you should avoid feeding too much of anything into the molten iron, otherwise you'll end up with oxidisation issues, which'll mess up the carburising effects and leave you with a carbon shortage in the castings. How much carburetor you add is determined by the ratio and carbon content of the other raw materials. The carburetor itself is made from pure carbon-containing graphitized substances, which help to reduce excess impurities in cast iron. Picking the right recarburizer can also help reduce the cost of castings.
